Round Top, Texas

Eat, Stay, Play

by Elizabeth Kurzweg

Nestled in the picturesque Texas Hill Country, Round Top is a charming small town only an hour drive away from our headquarters in Austin, Texas. Katie was brought there to speak at a Southern C event, but stayed for the antique shopping, scenic landscapes, and southern cuisine.

EAT

Round Top boasts a delightful array of dining options that reflect its small-town charm. Royers Round Top Cafe is a beloved spot for hearty breakfasts and classic American comfort food, with their homemade pies being a standout. For a more relaxed atmosphere, The Garden Company offers fresh, seasonal dishes and a lovely outdoor patio. Mandito’s takes your tastebuds south of the border with classic ingredients in this cantina-style space. For craft beer enthusiasts, Brazos Valley Brewing Co. provides a laid-back setting with food trucks, while Bistro 108 offers an upscale experience featuring locally sourced ingredients.

STAY

From hotels to B&B’s to glamping, Round Top and its surrounding Texas communities will fulfill all of your lodging needs. Round Top Inn features cozy cabins and cottages nestled among the trees. For a unique experience, Flophouze is a collection of six recycled shipping containers that have been repurposed into guest suites. For those wanting a traditional bed and breakfast, The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell offers beautifully designed guest rooms in a serene setting, perfect for relaxation. Finally, The Frenchie Boutique Hotel where Katie stayed is where small town charm meets chic decor in this elegantly restored 1900s farmhouse.

PLAY

Many come to Round Top for the famous Round Top Antiques Fair. Founded by the late Emma Lee Turney in 1968, “The Show” as known by Round Top veterans, has become one of the largest antique shows in the country. Over the years, one venue has turned into many venues, as shoppers drive down Highway 237 for miles to shop the fields, barns, and tents for antiques, art, decor, and more.

The town of Round Top has much to offer outside of its famous tri-annual antique fair. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the local galleries such as The Gallery at Round Top and The Humble Donkey Studio. The Round Top Festival Institute hosts various exhibitions and events such as concerts and ballet performances. For outdoor lovers, the Texas Hill Country offers scenic hiking and biking trails.
